Defense and Overtime Drama Propel North Central, North Park into CCIW Semifinals

NAPERVILLE — The semifinal round of the 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Championship is set. North Central held off Carthage in Naperville behind a first-half strike from Joseph Sargent, while North Park needed extra time in Chicago to outlast Carroll, with Bastian Eikeland delivering the golden goal in the first overtime period.
 
The Cardinals advance to meet second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, while North Park will head to top-seeded Wheaton. Both semifinal matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
#3 North Central def. #6 Carthage, 1-0
North Central earned a 1-0 win over Carthage at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill. The game’s lone goal came in the 27th minute, when Joseph Sargent netted his 14th tally of the season off an assist from Griffin French.
 
Both teams produced nine total shots. Carthage held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal, but North Central goalkeeper Vincent Stanislao turned aside all four attempts to record the shutout. Carthage’s Aaron The finished with two saves.
 
#4 North Park def. #5 Carroll, 1-0 (OT)
North Park prevailed 1-0 in overtime versus Carroll at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago. The Vikings dominated possession and offensive chances throughout regulation, outshooting the Pioneers 24-6, but were held scoreless through 90 minutes by Carroll goalkeeper Uriel Garcia.
 
The breakthrough finally came at 99:39, when North Park’s Bastian Eikeland found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season, finishing a play set up by Nico Chavez and Mans Klint. 
 
Garcia recorded nine saves for Carroll, while teammate Nathan Patzer added a defensive save to help extend the match.
