Illinois Wesleyan Reaches New Heights with #4 AVCA Ranking

NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan continued its climb up the national rankings Tuesday, reaching #4 in the new American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. The Titans are up two spots from last week, their new highest ranking in program history.

IWU beat Carroll last Wednesday in four sets to claim the outright College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season title for the second consecutive year, then earned a pair of wins over top-five opponents over the weekend. IWU beat then-#3 Wisconsin-Oshkosh on a sweep on Friday before Saturday’s four-set victory over then-#5 Juniata. The Titans now have five wins over nationally ranked opponents this season.

La Verne had 68 first-place votes and maintained the top spot in the poll. Second-ranked East Texas Baptist was the recipient of the other 18 first-place votes. They are the final two unbeaten teams in Division III this season. Wisconsin-Eau Claire was third, followed by the Titans and Wisconsin-Oshkosh to round out the top five.
