Vikings and Titans Earn Their Shot at the CCIW Men’s Soccer Crown

NAPERVILLE — North Park and Illinois Wesleyan each earned semifinal victories Wednesday night to set up Saturday’s CCIW Men’s Soccer Championship Final.

Fourth-seeded North Park stunned top-ranked Wheaton, 2-1, behind a comeback effort sparked by goals from Mathias Soerum and Bastian Eikeland. Second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan secured a commanding 4-1 win over North Central, powered by four different goal scorers.

The Vikings will make their third title game appearance in the last four years, while the Titans reach the final for the second time in three seasons and will host the championship match for the first time. The final is scheduled for IWU's Neis Field on Saturday at noon.

#4 North Park def. #1 Wheaton, 2-1
Wheaton grabbed the early advantage in the 23rd minute when Kyle Johnson finished a deflected cross from the right side, with the play developing from passes by teammates Jones and Falling. The lead was short-lived — just 46 seconds later, North Park answered through Mathias Soerum, who finished a one-touch strike into the lower right corner after Wheaton goalkeeper Jack Krahel’s clearance of a corner kick. The Vikings outshot Wheaton 12-3 in the opening half as the match went into the break tied at 1-1.

North Park completed the comeback in the 59th minute when Bastian Eikeland buried a curling free kick from just outside the box into the right side of the net, putting the Vikings ahead 2-1. From there, North Park’s defense held firm, limiting Wheaton’s late chances behind goalkeeper Ludvig Almborg. The sophomore made four saves, including stops on attempts from Isaac Lucas, Luke Vander Kolk and Jack Kern, to preserve the lead.

#2 Illinois Wesleyan def. #3 North Central, 4-1
The Titans controlled the first half with 13 shots to North Central’s eight and broke through just before halftime when Logan Tierney scored off an assist from Elsworth McIntosh in the 45th minute. NCC goalkeeper Vincent Stanislao tallied seven first-half saves, while IWU’s Sam Kedzior stopped five shots to preserve the early advantage.

North Central briefly pulled even early in the second half on a goal by Joris Rijnja, assisted by Aleks Duncevic, but Illinois Wesleyan quickly regained control. Matthew Perchik put the Titans back on top in the 61st minute in front of insurance goals from Daniel Smazil and Faheem Mujahid to secure IWU’s win.

IWU finished with a 24-18 edge in total shots and 13-10 advantage in shots on goal, while each team earned three corner kicks.
