AROUND THE CCIW

Schaefer is one of only two players to rank among the CCIW top 10 in both assists per set (9.53, second) and digs per set (2.19, seventh) and the only CCIW player to average at least 7.0 assists and 2.0 digs per set. The Vikings (8-3) have won four in a row since Feb. 1 and will aim to extend the streak Saturday in Fond du Lac, Wis. against Marian (11 a.m.) and Mount Saint Joseph (1 p.m.)

Carthage sophomore outside hitter Owen Otto (Hartford, Wis.) was named CCIW Hitter of the Week on Monday after an 18-kill effort for the Firebirds in their four-set road win at then-19th-ranked Dominican last Saturday. Otto, who has had 17 kills or more three times this season, is the league’s third-ranked scorer with 3.99 points per set, 3.43 kills per set and 0.32 service aces per set. The Firebirds (8-2) are on a three-match win streak and will continue non-league competition Friday night at 7 p.m. against Benedictine in Kenosha.

Illinois Wesleyan sophomore setter Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.) collected CCIW Setter of the Week honors on Monday and became the first Titan to earn AVCA Player of the Week honors on Tuesday after back-to-back triple-doubles in matches against Dominican last Thursday and Benedictine last Sunday. Reutter, the only CCIW player with multiple triple-doubles this season, ranks sixth among league players in both assists per set (4.74) and service aces per set (0.33). IWU (9-3) will travel to Springfield, Mass. this Friday and Saturday to face Arcadia Friday at 8 p.m. CT, followed by a match Saturday against either top-ranked NYU or host #6 Springfield.

North Central graduate setter Tyler Donovan (Lindenhurst, Ill.) logged 34 assists last Friday night against Adrian – third-most in a three-set match in the CCIW this season – in the Cardinals’ victory in Gregory Arena. Donovan now has 1,883 career assists and 57 career service aces, both totals ranking second-most among active league players. The Cardinals (5-3) will continue their homestand Thursday night in a 7 p.m. matchup with MSOE.
