IN THE POLLS
North Central moved up five positions – most by any team in the most recent rankings – to claim the #14 position in the new AVCA poll released on Tuesday.
Carthage was #6 and Loras was #13 in Tuesday’s announcement, keeping three teams from the CCIW among the top 14 in Division III.
The Cardinals’ point total in the poll increased to 199, their highest national ranking of the 2025 season. Carthage received 448 points in the poll. Loras had 224 points.
NATIONAL NOTABLES
Loras freshman setter
Evan Dziadkowiec (Lockport, Ill.) is the Division III leader with 11.00 assists per set.
Loras senior outside hitter
Corey Mayotte (Geneva, Ill.) is the Division III leader with 5.31 kills per set and 6.00 points per set. Mayotte also ranks second nationally with 10.80 attacks per set and 23rd nationally with a .377 hitting percentage.
Illinois Wesleyan freshman middle blocker
Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.) ranks sixth in Division III with 1.12 blocks per set.
Loras junior middle blocker
Bo Brainerd III (Delafield, Wis.) ranks sixth in Division III with a .463 hitting percentage.
Carthage senior middle blocker
Ryan Cholewinski (Lindenhurst, Ill.) ranks seventh in Division III with a .455 hitting percentage.
North Central senior middle blocker/opposite hitter
Cooper Lundal (Madison, Wis.) ranks ninth in Division III with a .443 hitting percentage.
North Park graduate libero
Noah Chanthalangsy (Rockford, Ill.) ranks 11th in Division III with 3.07 digs per set.
Augustana sophomore setter
Colin Schaefer (Northbrook, Ill.) ranks 15th in Division III with 9.34 assists per set.
Carthage junior setter
Ryan Morey (Redwood City, Calif.) ranks 24th in Division III with 9.13 assists per set.
AROUND THE CCIW
Augustana freshman outside hitter
Cole Clarke (Naperville, Ill.) logged 16 kills, five block assists and a service ace in the Vikings’ five-set loss at Clarke on Saturday. Clarke’s 3.07 points per set are second-most on the Augustana roster and rank ninth overall in the CCIW. Clarke has reached double figures in kills 10 times this season. Augie (11-11, 1-6 CCIW) will host North Park Saturday at 3 p.m.
Carthage sophomore opposite hitter
Ben Heise (Middleton, Wis.) put down eight kills to go along with a pair of service aces and 10 digs to give the Firebirds sole possession of first place in the league standings with a three-set sweep of Loras last Saturday. Heise has been one of the league’s most efficient hitters this season, ranking seventh in the CCIW with a .362 percentage. He is one of only five players in the league this season to have at least 12 kills in a match with a .570 hitting percentage or better in the same contest. Sixth-ranked Carthage (17-3, 6-1 CCIW) remains in Tarble Arena Saturday for a 3 p.m .start against Illinois Wesleyan.
Illinois Wesleyan freshman setter/opposite hitter
Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.) recorded his third consecutive start with 10 kills in the Titans’ loss at North Central last Saturday. Kuniela, whose 2.61 kills per set are 10th-most in the CCIW, also had five digs in the match and has tallied 10.0 points or more in four of his last five matches. The Titans (12-9, 2-5 CCIW) will play their final three matches against ranked opponents, starting with Saturday’s visit to #6 Carthage at 3 p.m.
Loras freshman setter
Evan Dziadkowiec (Lockport, Ill.) tallied 38 assists – fourth-most by a CCIW player in three-set match this season – to lift the Duhawks to a sweep at North Park on Wednesday night. In addition to leading Division III with 11.00 assists per set this season, Dziadkowiec’s 0.24 service aces per set ranks second on the Loras roster and ninth in the league. The Duhawks (14-4, 5-2 CCIW), ranked 13th nationally, will welcome 14th-ranked North Central for a league showdown in Dubuque on Saturday at 3 p.m.
North Central junior setter/opposite hitter
Carson Steinbach (Media, Penn.) put together another solid performance with 18 kills, 10 digs and total blocks as the Cardinals extended their win streak to five matches with a four-set win over #15 UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday in Naperville. The decision marked NCC’s second win over a nationally ranked opponent in an eight-day stretch and another double-double for Steinbach, who has four this season and was named CCIW Hitter of the Week on Monday. The 14th-ranked Cardinals (13-5, 5-2 CCIW) have a chance to claim sole possession of second place in the league standings when they visit #13 Loras Saturday at 3 p.m.
North Park senior setter/libero
Liam Miller (Rockford, Ill.) dished 15 assists and added a career-best three service aces to help the Vikings sweep Greenville last Friday in Chicago. Miller, whose 4.38 assists per set are eighth-most in the CCIW, became the sixth active player in the CCIW to eclipse 800 career assists in the win and has had 15 assists or more in all 10 of NPU’s victories this season. North Park (10-14, 2-5 CCIW) is back on the road Saturday at 3 p.m. at Augustana.
