NAPERVILLE — North Central was at the top of all 51 ballots in the preseason poll unveiled by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), presented by Hudl, on Monday morning.
The Cardinals, who were selected the preseason favorite in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) on Monday, also claimed the top spot in the D3football.com national preseason rankings last month. NCC had the maximum point total of 1,275 in the coaches' rankings.
Wheaton appeared at #17 on Monday with 423 points. The Thunder were also ranked 17th by D3football.com in July.
WashU was among unranked teams receiving votes, earning a single point in the preseason AFCA poll.
Mount Union, which will host Wheaton on Sept. 6, was ranked second on Monday. Johns Hopkins was third, followed by St. John’s and Susquehanna in the top five.
