North Central Stays Atop Polls After Season-Opening Rout

NAPERVILLE — North Central romped to a 45-14 season-opening win over #16/#18 Wisconsin-Oshkosh to keep its claim at the nation’s top-ranked team, according to recently released polls by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
 
In the D3football.com poll released Sunday, the Cardinals stacked up 621 points, earning 22 of a possible 25 first-place votes. NCC had 1,300 points in the coaches’ rankings on Monday – a unanimous choice at #1 from all 52 ballots.
 
North Central piled up 596 yards of total offense in the victory over UWO, its first season opener at home since 2021. NCC has won 16 games in a row.
 
Wheaton was idle Saturday but climbed four spots to #18 in both sets of rankings. The Thunder had 153 points in the D3football.com rankings and 270 in the coaches’ poll.
 
WashU, also idle Saturday, received 24 points in the AFCA poll.
