NAPERVILLE — Carroll and Illinois Wesleyan each moved up in the most recent 11 D3hoops.com Top 25 released Monday, and also improved their positions in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Coaches’ Poll released Tuesday, giving the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) two programs trending upward in the national rankings.
Carroll advanced two spots to No. 13 in the Week 11 D3hoops.com poll and received 326 points. The Pioneers are 20-4 overall and 14-1 in CCIW play, and enter the final week of the regular season on a 12-game winning streak. Carroll’s week included a 64-42 road win at North Park University on Wednesday and an 84-46 victory over Millikin on Saturday. Carroll also moved up one spot to No. 20 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association coaches’ poll released Tuesday.
Illinois Wesleyan climbed three positions to No. 15 in the Week 11 D3hoops.com poll with 243 points, while also moving up two spots to No. 17 in the WBCA coaches’ poll. The Titans are 18-5 overall and 13-1 in conference play. Illinois Wesleyan’s week included a 64-52 CCIW win over Carthage last Wednesday.
At the top of the national polls, NYU remained No. 1, receiving 20 first-place votes in the D3hoops.com poll and holding the unanimous top spot in the WBCA coaches’ poll. The D3hoops.com top five this week listed NYU, followed by Scranton, Johns Hopkins, Washington & Lee and Wisconsin-Oshkosh, while the WBCA top five featured NYU, Scranton, Johns Hopkins, Washington & Lee and Smith.
Both ranked CCIW teams close the regular season with key dates ahead, as IWU hosts Wheaton on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Shirk Center, while Carroll concludes its regular-season home schedule Saturday against Carthage at 2 p.m.
