NAPERVILLE — Augustana swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week honors announced Monday, with Zach Quimby earning Hitter of the Week recognition and Aidan Conners being named Pitcher of the Week.
The pair helped lead the Vikings to a 2-0 week that included a 19-0 win over Eureka and a 9-1 victory against Central (Iowa).
Hitter: Zach Quimby, Augustana
A junior catcher/designated hitter from Arvada, Colo., Quimby collected the conference’s weekly hitting honor after producing in both contests. He batted .714 (5-for-7) on the week with nine RBI, four runs scored, three doubles and two home runs for a 2.000 slugging percentage.
Against Eureka, Quimby finished 3-for-3 with seven RBI, two doubles and a home run. He followed with a 2-for-4 showing against Central, adding a double, a home run and two RBI.
Pitcher: Aidan Conners, Augustana
The conference’s Pitcher of the Week honor went to Conners after a dominant outing on the mound in the Vikings’ Friday win over Eureka. A native of Downers Grove, Ill., Conners earned the victory by tossing six hitless innings in the 19-0 shutout. He struck out nine, walked three and faced 22 batters on 83 pitches, with seven of his nine strikeouts coming looking.
