Big Blue sophomore adds national academic honor to All-America season

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Millikin sophomore pitcher Caleb Akins was named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Baseball Third Team, announced by CSC.

Akins was the CCIW’s lone selection on the NCAA Division III Academic All-America® Baseball Teams. The Troy, Ohio native was recognized as a pitcher after carrying a 3.60 grade-point average as a biology major.

The CSC Academic All-America® honor adds to a decorated sophomore season for Akins, who also earned ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-America and D3baseball.com Fourth Team All-America recognition in May. He was also selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 8 First Team and the D3baseball.com All-Region 8 First Team.

On the mound, Akins went 10-2 with a 2.63 ERA and 84 strikeouts during the 2026 season. He made 14 starts, threw four complete games and worked 95.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .198 batting average. At the time of his ABCA/Rawlings All-America selection, Akins was tied for fourth in NCAA Division III in victories and ranked 10th nationally with a 0.95 WHIP.

Akins was a key starter for a Millikin team that finished 35-10, won the CCIW regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament as the host of the Decatur Regional.

He was also named to the All-CCIW Second Team in 2026, returning to the all-conference list after being selected as the league’s First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year and an All-CCIW First Team pitcher in 2025.

The CSC Academic All-America® Baseball Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The 2026 CSC Academic All-America® program recognized honorees in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
