NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Six College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin student-athletes were named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, highlighted by Augustana College’s Charlotte Frere being selected as the NCAA Division III Women’s Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year.

Frere and Illinois Wesleyan University’s Adriana Crabtree earned women’s first-team recognition, while Illinois Wesleyan’s Mackenzie Huber was selected to the third team.

On the men’s side, Carthage College’s Jacob Curulewski and North Central College’s BJ Sorg earned second-team honors, while Augustana’s Landon Wierenga was named to the third team.

The Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined achievements in competition and in the classroom.

Charlotte Frere, Augustana, First Team and Division III Team Member of the Year

Frere completed one of the most decorated careers in CCIW and NCAA Division III track and field history.

The 2025-26 CCIW Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year won her third consecutive NCAA Division III outdoor national championship in the discus in May, becoming the first women’s track and field student-athlete in Augustana history to win three straight individual national titles.

During her senior season, Frere broke a 34-year-old NCAA Division III discus record with a throw of 56.59 meters. She finished the season as the Division III all-time leader in the event and was named the 2026 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Women’s Outdoor National Field Athlete of the Year.

Frere also captured CCIW outdoor championships in the discus and hammer throw and finished second in the shot put. Her career résumé includes three First Team All-America performances, four NCAA Championship appearances, back-to-back USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year awards and Augustana’s school record in the discus. She also helped the Vikings place fifth nationally at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.

Academically, Frere graduated with a 3.96 grade-point average as a biology and kinesiology major. She earned First Team Academic All-America® honors for the third consecutive year and was also selected as a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Adriana Crabtree, Illinois Wesleyan, First Team

Crabtree earned her second consecutive Academic All-America® honor after receiving second-team recognition in 2024-25.

She concluded her Illinois Wesleyan career with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Her personal-best time of 10:18.82 established an Illinois Wesleyan and CCIW all-time record in the event.

Crabtree was named both the CCIW Women’s Indoor Track Student-Athlete of the Meet and the CCIW Women’s Outdoor Track Student-Athlete of the Meet in 2026. Indoors, she won conference championships in the mile, 3,000 meters and distance medley relay. Outdoors, she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter titles, setting CCIW Championship records in both events.

A four-time All-CCIW performer, Crabtree finished her career as a two-time First Team All-American in the steeplechase. She placed seventh nationally in 2025 before improving to third in 2026. She also earned Second Team All-America recognition in the indoor mile in 2024 and indoor 3,000 meters in 2026.

Crabtree maintained a 3.86 GPA while majoring in environmental studies.

Mackenzie Huber, Illinois Wesleyan, Third Team

Huber earned her first career Academic All-America® selection following a breakout junior season in the 800 meters.

She placed fourth in the 800-meter run at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships to earn First Team All-America honors. Huber also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where she finished 17th in the 800-meter preliminaries.

At the CCIW Indoor Championships, Huber won conference titles in the 800 meters, 4x400-meter relay and distance medley relay. She added another conference championship in the outdoor 800 meters and helped Illinois Wesleyan place second in the outdoor 4x400-meter relay. Her personal-best outdoor 800-meter time of 2:10.07 ranked among the top performances in program history.

Huber, who also competed for the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball program, holds a 3.93 GPA as an elementary education major.

Jacob Curulewski, Carthage, Second Team

Curulewski earned second-team Academic All-America® recognition after collecting a pair of Second Team All-America finishes at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.

The Carthage distance standout placed 16th nationally in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:13.64. Two days later, he moved from 22nd to 11th place during the 5,000-meter final, finishing in 14:34.00 to earn his second All-America honor of the championship.

Curulewski also won the 3,000-meter championship at the 2026 CCIW Indoor Championships, helping Carthage finish second in the team standings. During his career, he earned First Team All-CCIW and All-Region honors in cross country and competed at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. He placed sixth at both the 2024 CCIW and NCAA North Region Cross Country Championships.

The Downers Grove, Illinois, native also previously held Carthage’s outdoor 5,000-meter school record with a time of 14:31.22.

Curulewski earned Academic All-America® honors with a 3.76 GPA as a political science major.

BJ Sorg, North Central, Second Team

Sorg received his first Academic All-America® honor following a season in which he qualified for both the NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

The North Central junior earned Second Team All-America recognition with an 11th-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He later qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000 meters.

At the 2026 CCIW Indoor Championships, Sorg won conference titles in the mile and distance medley relay. He added a runner-up finish in the 10,000 meters at the CCIW Outdoor Championships.

Sorg’s personal-best time of 29:23.88 in the outdoor 10,000 meters ranked sixth in North Central program history, while his indoor 3,000-meter time of 8:18.17 ranked ninth. He was also named a CCIW Track Student-Athlete of the Week during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

A two-time NCAA outdoor qualifier in the 10,000 meters, Sorg also earned Second Team All-America honors in the event in 2025.

Sorg holds a perfect 4.00 GPA as an environmental studies major and received the CCIW Elite 26 Award at both the 2026 indoor and outdoor conference championships.

Landon Wierenga, Augustana, Third Team

Wierenga earned his first Academic All-America® honor after establishing himself as one of Division III’s top throwers during the 2026 outdoor season.

The Augustana junior climbed as high as second nationally in the hammer throw after recording a personal-best mark of 62.12 meters. He earned USTFCCCA All-Region recognition in both the hammer throw and discus.

Wierenga placed third in the discus at the CCIW Outdoor Championships before finishing 11th in the event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, earning Second Team All-America honors.

He was twice named the CCIW Men’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. In addition to his nationally ranked hammer mark, Wierenga recorded a discus throw of 48.10 meters during the regular season, which ranked among the top marks in the conference.

Wierenga carries a perfect 4.00 GPA while studying business administration. He became Augustana men’s track and field’s first Academic All-American since 2019 and the program’s 46th all-time selection.
