Millikin’s Davis, North Park’s Skoglund Grab Weekly CCIW Men’s Soccer Honors

Bryce Davis had three goals across three matches while Arvid Skoglund posted three consecutive shutouts in goal.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -  As non-conference play continues and the start of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play draws closer, Millikin University’s Bryce Davis was named the CCIW Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, while North Park University’s Arvid Skoglund earned the award for the Defensive Player of the Week.

In three matches this past week for the Big Blue, Davis found the back of the net three times and set up another goal to help Millikin to a 1-1-1 record. Skoglund didn’t allow a goal in three straight matches as the Vikings went 2-0-1.

Offensive

Bryce Davis, Millikin (Forward, Senior, Bethalo, Ill.)

Millikin posted eight goals in three matches this past week, with Davis playing a role in half of them. In a 4-3 defeat at Illinois College, Davis scored late to bring the Big Blue to within a goal, though they were unable to find the equalizer. Two days later, Millikin was deadlocked with Blackburn College until Davis assisted on a goal with less than 20 minutes remaining in what turned into a 2-0 win for Millikin. The week ended with a 3-3 thriller against Rose-Hulman in which Davis tied the match at 1-1 early in the second half and at 3-3 in the 71st minute.

Defensive

Arvid Skoglund, North Park (Goalkeeper, Sophomore, Göteborg, Sweden)

Arvid Skoglund refused to allow in a single goal in three matches this past week for North Park. Playing all 270 minutes, Skoglund made one save in a 2-0 defeat of Milwaukee School of Engineering, then followed that up with four stops in a 1-0 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Returning to action the next day, Skoglund saved all six shots on goal from Pacific Lutheran University to preserve a 0-0 draw. Including a 1-1 draw last week with Washington University in St. Louis, Skoglund’s goalless streak has now stretched to over 300 minutes.
