NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University’s Alex Bardouniotis and Alysa Lawton, along with Carthage College’s Ava Dettwiler, claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin’s first Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week honors, announced Monday.
Bardouniotis led the Titans’ offense with 75 kills and eight service aces over 19 sets. Lawton anchored the Illinois Wesleyan defense with 105 digs, including 41 against Aurora, while posting a .980 receiving percentage. Dettwiler directed the Carthage offense with 145 assists and helped the Firebirds post the CCIW’s second-best team hitting percentage at .174.

Offensive
Alex Bardouniotis, Illinois Wesleyan (Outside Hitter, Junior, St. Charles, Ill.)
Bardouniotis had a strong opening week for the No. 8 nationally ranked Titans, leading the Illinois Wesleyan offense with 91 points across five wins on the week. The junior totaled 75 kills in 19 sets, averaging 3.95 kills per set with a .293 hitting percentage, while also adding eight service aces and earning a spot on the IWU Tournament All-Tournament Team.
Defensive
Alysa Lawton, Illinois Wesleyan (Defensive Specialist/Libero, Junior, Elmhurst, Ill.)
Lawton had a strong opening week defensively for the Titans, totaling 105 digs across five matches and averaging 5.53 digs per set. The junior recorded 41 digs in a five-set match against Aurora and finished the week with a .980 receiving percentage, committing just one error in 49 attempts. Her 41 digs are tied for the most in Division III this season and ranks her tied for the third-most in program history. Lawton was also named the MVP of the IWU Tournament.
Setter
Ava Dettwiler, Carthage (Setter, Junior, La Crosse, Wis.)
Dettwiler controlled the Firebirds’ offense throughout the opening week, totaling 145 assists and averaging 7.63 assists per set. She added 24 kills, 13 service aces, 54 digs and eight blocks while helping Carthage post the CCIW’s second-best team hitting percentage at .174. Dettwiler averaged 2.16 points per set while posting a .244 hitting percentage.
