Teams

Augustana
The Vikings last swam on January 22 at the Grinnell Invitational where they finished fourth. Freshman Justin Reppy (Oswego, Ill./H.S.) finished third in the 1650 freestyle (17:25.22). He also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:49.88).

Carthage
Carthage is going for its fourth-straight CCIW title this weekend and fifth in the last six seasons. The Red Men recently finished first at the Wisconsin Private College Championship in their home pool on January 29. Steve Mathe (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel Catholic) was named CCIW Swimmer of the Week as he finished first in both the 500 freestyle (4:58.04) and the 1,650 freestyle (17:13.84). Also winning for Carthage were Mike Moravek (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Fremd) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.68), Kyle Drake (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the 100 butterfly (57.16), Bob Pellican (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) in the 200 backstroke (1:57.12), Doug Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.16) and Adam Van Huis (Winneconne, Wis./H.S.) in the 400 individual medley (4:34.02).

Illinois Wesleyan
The Titans finished fourth at last season’s conference championship, but are coming off a pair of dual meet victories against conference opponents North Central and Wheaton on February 5. The Titans defeated the Cardinals, 104-7, and the Thunder, 66-59. Brent Caras (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) was a double winner for the men's team, claiming first in the 50 freestyle (22.55 seconds) and 100 butterfly (54.03 seconds). Mike Firth (East Moline, Ill./United) was first in the 100 backstroke with a Fort Natatorium record time of 52.40 seconds.

Millikin
The Big Blue recently finished third at the Principia Invitational on January 29, their last competition date. The 400 freestyle relay team of John Billmack (Champaign, Ill./Central), Les Flesher (Pleasant Valley, Iowa/Bettendorf), Jeff Smith (Edelstein, Ill./Dunlap) and Chris Sykes (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) placed second with a time of 3:46.99. Sykes also won the 100 freestyle in a dual meet with Illinois Wesleyan on January 21.

North Central
Freshman Sean Broucek (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) recently placed sixth in both the 100 backstroke (1:01.47) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.36) during a double dual meet with Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton on February 5. He also finished seventh in the 100 freestyle (55.96).

Rose-Hulman
Rose-Hulman finished third at last season’s conference championship and finished second in a meet against IUPUI and Butler on February 5. John Huster (Terre Haute, Ind./North) earned two individual first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.45) and the 100 freestyle (49.07). The 200 medley relay team of Huster, James Landry (Grayslake, Ill./North), Andrew Podgorski (Goshen, Ind./H.S.) and Alex Krull (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) also finished first (1:40.94).

Wheaton
Divers Derek Meadows (Colleyville, Texas/Covenant Christian) and Scott Gallagher (Cannon Falls, Minn./Northfield) finished first and second respectively at last Saturday’s conference diving competition. Meadows won the one-meter with 383.05 points and also the three-meter with 384.50 points. Gallagher finished runner-up in both events with 367.45 points and 342.35 points respectively. The Thunder recently went 1-1 in a double dual meet against North Central and Illinois Wesleyan. The Thunder defeated the Cardinals, 106-9, but lost to the Titans, 66-59, on February 5. Preston Conger (Aiken, S.C./Westminster School of Augustana) won the 200 butterfly (2:05.95) and Carl Sveen (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) won the 500 freestyle (4:59.26).
