NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Vlasta Mangia and Carthage’s Krystina Leazer were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Players of the Week Tuesday.

Mangia, a sophomore outfielder from Cicero, Ill., and Morton High School (Accounting major), batted .625 as she was 10-for-16 at the plate with seven runs, two doubles, one triple, six RBI and an .875 slugging percentage last week. She was 3-for-4 during a game one victory over Beloit on March 29, followed by a 2-for-4 and two RBI performance in game two. The Cardinals won both with scores of 8-1 and 8-0 respectively. Mangia helped sweep Monmouth (Ill.) on March 31, going 4-for-4 with three RBI in a 7-1 game one victory, and 1-for-4 with one RBI in a 10-7 game two victory. She also picked up two wins in the circle and tallied one save with a 0.44 ERA.

Leazer, a junior pitcher from Des Plaines, Ill., and Elk Grove High School (Exercise & Sport Science major), went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA for the Lady Reds last week. Opponents batted just .116 against her as she struck out 18 and walked only two. She pitched a one-hit shutout over six innings with one walk and four strikeouts in an 8-0 win at St. Mary's (Ind.) on March 25. In a 3-2 win over Lake Forest on March 31, Leazer upped her record to 9-1 by limiting the Foresters to two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 14 batters.
