NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton’s 17-3 win over Carthage on Saturday secured a second-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football title and 18th in school history.
The conference title was Wheaton’s eighth under head coach Mike Swider, which also includes wins in 2000, 2002-04, 2006, 2012 and 2014. Before Swider’s tenure, the program won CCIW titles in 1949, 1950, 1953-59 and 1995.
Last week’s 40-27 win at Illinois Wesleyan clinched the Thunder their second-straight NCAA Division III Football Championship berth as Wheaton will represent the CCIW as its automatic qualifier. This will be the Thunder’s eighth NCAA appearance under Swider dating back to 2002. Wheaton’s farthest advancement was the national semifinal round in 2008.
