Women's Lacrosse Newsletter (4/16/15)

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Gina Fisher and Carthage’s Taylor Sopron were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday.

Fisher, a junior midfielder from St. Louis, Missouri and Ursuline Academy (Marketing/Management major), was named the CCIW Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after helping lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 record last week. She totaled 16 goals, four assists and 12 ground balls to go along with 16 draw controls. She finished with four goals, two ground balls and one draw control in an 11-10 win at Beloit on April 7, five goals, one assist, eight ground balls and 10 draw controls in a 14-9 victory against Augsburg on April 10, and seven goals, three assists, two ground balls and five draw controls in a 16-9 win at Dubuque on April 11.

Sopron, a junior goalkeeper from La Grange, Illinois and Lyons Township High School (Exercise & Sport Science major), was in goal for both Lady Reds’ wins last week. She made 19 saves while playing all 60 minutes during a 10-9 win over Concordia (Wis.) on April 8 and followed with 12 saves in 54:16 minutes of playing time during an 18-5 win over Illinois Wesleyan on April 11. She finished with a .693 save percentage on the week.
