NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Park’s
Cullen Gilbertson and Wheaton’s
Daniel Bayer were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Gilbertson, a freshman infielder from Rapid City, South Dakota and Stevens High School (History major), batted .611 (11-for-18) with seven runs, one double, three RBI and a .667 slugging percentage for the Vikings last week. In an 18-8 win over Millikin on April 17, he finished a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and four runs. Gilbertson finished with a hit in all five of North Park’s games last week including going 2-for-4 with a run against Illinois Wesleyan on April 13 and a 2-for-5 performance with a run in a 9-8 win against Benedictine on April 14.
Bayer, a junior pitcher from Oakton, Virginia and James Madison High School (Political Science & Economics major), paced Wheaton to a 4-0 shutout of Carthage on April 13 as he scatted four Red Men singles over nine innings. His nine strikeouts tied for the most by a Wheaton pitcher in a game since April 9, 2014.
