NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- North Central sophomore
Alaina Kanthaphixay was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Player of the Week following her performance in the Cardinals' season-opening matches over the weekend.
A native of Streamwood, Illinois and Streamwood High School, Kanthaphixay went 4-0 during the team's two matches on Saturday. She was 2-0 at No. 2 singles with wins over Wartburg's Madison Overmann (6-2, 6-3) and Concordia-Wisconsin's Elizabeth Johnson (6-0, 6-1). Kanthaphixay and teammate Hannah Hougland went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, beating Hannah Fox and Overmann (8-2) and Ricki Budewitz and Elizabeth Johnson (8-6). The Cardinals defeated
Wartburg 7-2 and
Concordia-Wisconsin 9-0.
This marks Kanthaphixay's second CCIW Player of the Week honor following her recognition on September 26, 2018.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2018-19 academic year, the CCIW honored over 2,200 academic all-conference recipients, 18 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 43 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, and over 100 all-Americans.
