CCIW announces All-Conference Women's Tennis Team

Seven repeat selections highlight this year's honorees

All-Conference Women's Tennis Team

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced today the 12 members of the CCIW Women's Tennis Team. Seven of the 12 honorees on this year's team are repeat selections.

North Central senior Kaeli Smashey became the fifth player in CCIW history to repeat as the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year. For the second year in a row, Smashey was unblemished at No. 1 singles, recording a record of 8-0.

A year after North Central's Ryan Jump became the first Cardinal coach to win CCIW Coach of the Year honors, Jump repeated as the conference's Coach of the Year on Tuesday. Jump led the Cardinals to an undefeated record at 14-0 as the Cardinals swept their way through to their second CCIW Tournament Championship in program history.

Millikin's Emily Markus was named the CCIW Newcomer of the Year, marking Millikin's first individual award winner in program history. Markus was undefeated in CCIW play, compiling a record of 8-0 at No. 2 singles while leading the Big Blue to a third place finish at last weekend's CCIW Tournament Championship.

The Cardinals led the way with two First Team members and two Second Team members, while Augustana, Carthage, Millikin, and Wheaton each had two selections apiece.

CCIW Elite 25 Award: During each conference championship, the CCIW will present the Elite 25 Award which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers. This year's women's tennis recipient is Wheaton's Lily Van Ye, a junior from Neenah, WI.

CCIW RESPECT Award: At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program will recognize one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. This year's women's tennis student-athletes include Augustana: Lauren Oda,  Carroll:  Maya Gaedtke,  Carthage:  Sierra Sonnemaker, Elmhurst:  Isabella Rahman, Illinois Wesleyan: Maria Poehls, Millikin: Destiny Galvan, North Central:  Sjana Henderson, North Park:  Lisa Viuhkonen and Wheaton: Bethany Hoogerheide.
