Transylvania to join CCIW as associate member in men’s lacrosse in 2021-22

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced today the addition of Transylvania University as an associate member for men’s lacrosse effective with the start of the 2021-22 academic year.

With the addition of Transylvania, the CCIW will have seven members competing in men’s lacrosse next season, joining core members Augustana, Carroll, Carthage, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan and North Central.

Additionally, the CCIW will continue to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The CCIW determines its automatic qualifier via the postseason conference tournament each May.

“The CCIW is excited for this opportunity to add Transylvania University as an associate member for men’s lacrosse,” Executive Director Maureen Harty said. “Transylvania fills a need for the CCIW and their academic profile matches those of other CCIW members."

Transylvania University, located in Lexington, Kentucky, began competing in men’s lacrosse in 2012 when head coach Terry Justice established the program. During the most recent full season in 2019, the Pioneers set a program record for wins with 14 and won the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference’s regular season and tournament titles.

“I have had the opportunity to establish friendships with many of the CCIW coaches over the years and have great respect for their programs,” stated Justice. “Every team in that conference is well-coached.  We look forward to competing with them on a regular basis.”
