NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage was predicted to win the 2021 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women's golf title based on the results of the conference's annual coaches' poll announced Wednesday.
The poll predicted how each team would finish at next week's
CCIW Women's Golf Championship held September 30 to October 2 at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
The Firebirds won the poll with 49 points and seven first place votes. Carthage is looking to win its first title since the fall of 2019 under head coach Brandy Johnston and have won seven CCIW women's golf titles overall.
Illinois Wesleyan was second in the poll with 42 points as the Titans are coming off its 16th CCIW title. The Titans won the conference title in the spring at Oak Brook Golf Club and tied for ninth overall at the NCAA Division III Championship.
Augustana placed third with 34 points and one first place vote following a third place finish at the CCIW Championship in the spring.
Millikin finished fourth in the voting with 30 points, followed by Elmhurst (21), Wheaton (19), North Central (17) and Carroll (12).
Voting is done by the CCIW's head women’s golf coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches do not vote for their own teams.
The winner of next week's championship will be designated as this year's conference champion and will earn the CCIW's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, held May 10-13, 2022 at Woodlands Country Club in Houston.
