NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has announced Illinois Wesleyan’s Caelyn Steffens as the Women’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week and Carthage’s Ainsley Stallworth as the Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, Tuesday afternoon.
Steffens set a CCIW single-season scoring record with three goals and an assist for the Titans last week. She scored three times for IWU in its 6-0 win at Elmhurst last Wednesday that allowed the Titans to clinch the CCIW regular-season championship. The Normal, Ill. native also had an assist Saturday at North Central. Her 32 points scored during the eight-match league slate are most by a player in league history, topping the previous record of 30 set by Wheaton’s Sarah Johnson in 2003.
Stallworth contributed a pair of clean sheets for the Firebirds last week, helping Carthage earn its first two wins of the campaign. The freshman from Fresno, Calif. had six stops in a 1-0 win over North Park last Wednesday at Art Keller Field, then logged four saves in Saturday’s 3-0 shutout at Millikin. The efforts were her second and third shutouts of the season and lowered her season goals-against average to 1.57.
