NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton, the 15-time College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) champion, is the league coaches’ favorite to make it #16 at this Saturday’s CCIW Women’s Cross Country Championship at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Ill. The race is scheduled for a noon start.

The Thunder received eight first-place votes
from CCIW head coaches earlier this month for a total of 64 points in the pre-championship poll. WC was also ranked sixth in the most recent Midwest Region poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Oct. 18.
Millikin also received a first-place vote and was second in the league rankings with 53 points. The Big Blue is the 10th-ranked squad in the Midwest Region according to the USTFCCA.
North Central was third with 49 points and Illinois Wesleyan, ninth in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings last week, checked in fourth with 47 points.
Augustana and Carthage tied for fifth with 28 points apiece, followed by defending CCIW team champion Elmhurst (24), Carroll (23) and North Park (8).
Saturday’s race figures to include a lengthy list of individual contenders. Seven different runners from six different teams have recorded a 6K time among the 10 fastest in the league this season. Annaleese Chudy of Illinois Wesleyan has turned in the season’s fastest time at 22:32.0 two weekends ago at Augustana’s Interregional Invitational at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
Wheaton’s Alyssa Mantia ran the next-fastest time at 22:39.9 on Oct. 15 at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational on Oct. 15. Mantia, a junior from West Chicago, owns three of the 10 fastest races by a CCIW runner in 2022.
Carroll’s Elizabeth Reddemann is the only other individual to appear on the top 10 list more than once, including a 22:51.1 time at the Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wis. on Sept. 30.
