2022 All-CCIW Football Team Announced

| By: Bryan Moore, Associate Executive Director
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its All-Conference Teams, Tuesday afternoon.

The honorees include CCIW Bob Reade Coach of the Year Brad Spencer of North Central and CCIW Art Keller Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year Ethan Greenfield of North Central. There are co-recipients of the CCIW Don Larson Co-Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year – Millikin’s Alexander Perkins and North Central’s Dan Lester. The CCIW Offensive Line Student-Athlete of the Year is Jeske Maples of North Central, and the CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year is Carroll’s Will Campbell.

In his first season as head coach, Spencer guided the Cardinals to the nation’s top ranking for 10 consecutive weeks and an undefeated regular season. NCC, which won its 16th CCIW championship last Saturday, will host Lake Forest in the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs this Saturday at noon.

Greenfield leads the CCIW and ranks fourth nationally in rushing with 1,370 yards. He also scored a CCIW-best 18 rushing touchdowns. Last week, he became the 11th player in Division III history with 6,000 career rushing yards, and he’ll enter Saturday’s playoff opener against Lake Forest with 6,052 career yards. The Lindenhurst, Ill. native became the CCIW’s all-time leading rusher in the Cardinals’ Oct. 1 victory over Wheaton.

On the defensive side, Perkins led NCAA Division III with 28.5 tackles for loss and 18.0 sacks. He added 54 total tackles, seven quarterback hurries and returned an interception 80 yards at Wheaton on Oct. 29. The senior from Chicago also forced four fumbles for the Big Blue, most in the league and fourth-most nationally. His 0.82 career sacks per game ranks ninth among active Division III players.

Lester starred on North Central’s defensive unit that ranked first nationally in points allowed (5.1 per game) and 12th in yards allowed (221.3). His 18.0 tackles for loss were third-most among CCIW players and 21st nationally, while his 8.5 sacks ranked fifth among league defenders. The Indian Creek, Ill. native finished the campaign with 42 tackles.

Maples was the anchor of NCC’s offensive line that paved the way for the Cardinals’ 574.5 yards and 58.3 points per game – both marks leading Division III. The sophomore from Moweaqua, Ill. helped NCC score 50 or more points eight times in 2022, including a season-high 76 points on Sept. 24.

Carroll’s Campbell was voted the league’s top first-year student-athlete after totaling 63 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. He logged a career-best 16 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and recovered a fumble in the Pios’ 31-28 double-overtime win at Elmhurst on Oct. 15.

The Elite 26 award winners are Bobby Behmer of North Central and JJ Ruff of Wheaton. Modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 program, the CCIW Elite 26 is presented to the student-athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports. To be eligible for the Elite 26 Award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior, or senior and in at least their second season of competition with their current team. Graduate students are not eligible. For football, the student-athlete with the highest GPA from the first or second place team in the conference standings will receive the award.
