NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton sophomore Ethan Renager has been voted College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week, according to a vote conducted by league head coaches. Renager, the first CCIW wrestler to earn the weekly honor in 2022-23, won the 141-pound bracket at the Messiah Invitational last Saturday in Grantham, Pa.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native opened the tournament with a 16-1 technical fall, won in the quarterfinals with a 5-1 decision and later advanced to the championship thanks to a 10-1 major decision. In the final versus Harris Foad of Washington & Lee, Renager won a 4-1 decision.
Renager’s effort allowed the Thunder to finish fifth in the nine-team event.
