Alyssa Malicki and North Central's
Gianna Corban were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Malicki, a senior infielder from Norridge, Illinois and Ridgewood High School, batted .737 (14-for-19) with seven runs, three doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI and a 1.526 slugging percentage for the 5-1 Vikings last week. She also threw nine innings in the circle, totaling nine strikeouts. Malicki hit a home run in three-straight games including a 6-0 win over Millsaps and a 3-0 shutout against Edgewood on March 15, as well as an 11-4 win over Beloit on March 17. She also had a home run and five RBI in a 13-1, five-inning defeat of Ripon on March 18.
Corban, a senior pitcher from Morris, Illinois and Morris High School, was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA and 23 strikeouts in three appearances, all on Thursday, March 17. She pitched five innings, gave up one hit and struck out 11 batters in a 5-0 shutout of Minnesota Morris. Later in the day, she pitched seven innings and struck out seven in a 5-1 win against Geneseo. She came back in the night contest and pitched two innings with five strikeouts and a save in a 1-0 victory over Curry.
