Paul Beverly and Millikin's
Caleb Buehrle were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Beverly, a senior infielder from Roselle, Illinois and Lake Park High School, batted .625 (10-for-16) with four runs, two doubles and four RBI for the 2-2 Cardinals last week. He had multiple hits in all four games including 3-for-5 with a run, one double and two RBI in a 9-4 loss to Elmhurst on April 14. He then went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI in a 16-5 seven-inning victory at North Park on April 15. Beverly was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in a 7-5 Game One win over North Park on April 16, and finished the week by going 2-for-3 with a run in a 13-5 loss to the Vikings in Game Two.
Buehrle, a senior pitcher from Wildwood, Missouri and St. John Vianney High School, earned a save and a win for the Big Blue last week. He pitched the final 2.2 innings of a 5-1 victory at Augustana on April 15 as he gave up no runs on two hits, along with three strikeouts and a save. Buehrle came back the next day and pitched the Big Blue to a 5-3 win over Carroll as he went 8.2 innings with four strikeouts, while holding the Pioneers to three runs.
