Millikin wins seventh CCIW softball title in program history

DECATUR, Ill. -- Millikin earned its seventh College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) softball title on the final day of the regular season on Monday, beating Carthage 5-2 and 9-1.

With the two wins, the Big Blue moved to 13-3 in conference play and claimed its second-straight outright title and third under the coaching duo of Whitney Sowers and Katie Tenboer. The Big Blue have now won CCIW regular season titles in 1987, 1988, 1990, 2011, 2017, 2021 and 2022.

With the double-header sweep on Modnay, Millikin will host the 2022 CCIW Softball Tournament this Thursday through Saturday at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois. The Big Blue enter the weekend as the defending tournament champion and have won CCIW Tournament titles three times (1987, 1990, 2021).

The CCIW Tournament champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. The full national field will be announced on Monday, May 9 via NCAA.com.
