NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carroll’s Marti Solanellas Viella and North Central’s Sid Marquardt are the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Solanellas Viella is the Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring three times in his first two collegiate matches on the Pioneer’s weekend trip to California. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain got CU on the board in last Friday’s opener at Chapman in the 34th minute and struck again in the first minute of the second half. In Saturday’s 3-1 win at La Verne, Solanellas Viella helped set the tone for the win with his third goal of the season just 18 seconds into the match.

The CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week is Marquardt after the Hartland, Wis. native opened the season with his 13th career shutout in North Central’s season-opening victory on the road over Marian last Thursday. Marquardt, who was a United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American in 2021, followed that effort with a critical save in the 75th minute that preserved the Cardinals’ 2-1 victory over Kalamazoo on Saturday. Tuesday’s announcement marks Marquardt’s third career CCIW Student-Athlete of the week award.
