NAPERVILLE – Three football student-athletes received Student-Athlete of the Week accolades from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) on Monday afternoon.
Offense: DeAngelo Hardy, North Central
Hardy has earned the CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week award in consecutive weeks after putting up a stat line of five receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns in NCC’s 75-3 victory at Millikin. The Lake Villa, Ill. native scored all three touchdowns in the first half and now leads the league in total touchdowns in 2023.
Defense: Nick Mantas, Carroll
A senior defensive lineman, Mantas tied single-game Carroll records in Saturday’s 62-14 win over Elmhurst with 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Mantas finished the afternoon with seven tackles – all solo – and forced a fumble for the Pioneers.
Special Teams: Juan Nieves, North Park
Nieves got the Vikings on the board Saturday afternoon with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown just 58 seconds into the second quarter. The play ignited NPU’s comeback bid that ended with a 20-18 win over visiting Illinois Wesleyan, giving the Vikings four wins in a season for the first time since 1993.
