NAPERVILLE – Wheaton swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday afternoon. WC senior Anthony Fitzgerald seized the swimming award, while sophomore Mateo Anderson was the diving recipient.
Swimming: Anthony Fitzgerald, Wheaton
Fitzgerald – an All-American last season – won two individual events against nationally ranked Calvin. He swam winning times of 57.99 seconds in the 100 breaststroke and 2:09.18 in the 200 breaststroke. The Irvine, Calif. native also split 47.4 on Wheaton’s 400 freestyle relay, a best in-season performance.
Diving: Mateo Anderson, Wheaton
Anderson achieved career bests on both boards this weekend, winning against Calvin with scores of 171.20 (3-meter) and 179.10 (1-meter). His performance in the 3-meter event is the current top score among CCIW divers this season. Anderson is now a two-time winner from the CCIW this season after previously earning a selection on Oct. 24.
