CCIW Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Pick Chicago in Preseason Poll

NAPERVILLE – Two-time defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women’s lacrosse champion Chicago has been chosen by league head coaches to earn a third consecutive regular-season title, according to a preseason poll released Tuesday.

The Maroons, who swept the conference schedule, won the CCIW Tournament title and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last spring, notched 36 points on six first-place votes in the ballot submitted by conference head coaches earlier this month. Chicago was ranked #17 nationally in a preseason ILWomen/IWLCA DIII Poll released late last month.
 
Carthage, the CCIW runner up a year ago, was picked second in Tuesday’s poll. The Firebirds received one first-place vote and 31 total points.
 
The third spot went to Carroll with 25 points, followed by three-time league champion Illinois Wesleyan in fourth place with 22 points. North Central was fifth (16 points), three-time champ Augustana was sixth (11 points) and Elmhurst (six points) was seventh.
 
The regular season begins on Saturday, Feb. 18 when Carthage hosts DePauw and Carroll travels to Hamline. The CCIW schedule begins Wednesday, April 5 and the top four teams in the final conference standings will participate in the 2023 CCIW Tournament beginning with the semifinal round on Wednesday, May 3.
