Carthage’s Silveira Perfect, Collects Weekly CCIW Award

NAPERVILLE – Carthage freshman Francisco Silveira was unbeaten in the final week of the regular season, winning each of his four matches in duals against Wheaton and Augustana to be the recipient of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week award, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Silveira, who was named CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, was a 7-6, 6-2 winner at #2 singles last Wednesday over Wheaton’s Tim Steiner. Silveira delivered another singles win just three days later, a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Augustana’s Deepak Mayara that allowed the Firebirds to win the dual, 5-4.
 
In doubles play, Silveira stayed unbeaten in CCIW action alongside Cooper Ferruzzi at #2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Wheaton’s Joey Geisz and Jacob Williams. The Firebirds’ pairing also won on Saturday against Augie, 8-7 over Nicolas Navarro and Quentin Essayie.
