CCIW Unveils All-Conference Softball Teams

| By: Bryan Moore, Associate Executive Director
NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) released the 2023 All-CCIW Softball Teams on Tuesday afternoon. League co-champion Illinois Wesleyan received seven selections and fellow co-champion Millikin earned five.

IWU teammates Ava Khoury and Madison Moore were voted CCIW Co-Offensive Student-Athletes of the Year. North Central’s Katie Del Re was chosen as the league’s inaugural Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year.

The CCIW Pitcher of the Year was Augustana’s Nadia Ranieri, while Claire Post of Illinois Wesleyan was voted CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year.

Illinois Wesleyan, led by seventh-year head coach Tiffany Prager, was voted CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year.

Khoury, a 6-2 sophomore first baseman, finished among the league’s top-10 in seven different offensive categories during the 16-game conference schedule, including the top spot in slugging percentage (.821), RBI (22) and home runs (7). The sophomore from Columbia, Ill., who was a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in 2023, will enter Thursday’s CCIW Tournament ranked second in Division III with 15 home runs this spring.

Moore was also a mainstay on the CCIW leaderboards, ranking first with a .458 batting average and a .533 on-base percentage. Moore, the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week on May 1, was one of only four players in the league with at least 10 walks during the league schedule and her 22 hits were one behind the league-leading total.

Del Re shined at the shortstop position for North Central, logging a .975 fielding percentage at the league’s premier defensive infield role. She led all eligible CCIW shortstops with 79 defensive chances, 32 putouts and 45 assists – all while committing a league-low two errors at the position. At the dish, her 18 hits ranked ninth league-wide in conference action.

No player in the league received more weekly accolades than Ranieri, who was a four-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week winner at the pitcher position, including three selections in a row from April 3-17. The Augustana ace struck out a league-best 81 hitters and also ranked second in innings pitched (58.2), second in earned-run average (1.55), second in wins (6) and fourth in opposing batting average (.224).

In addition to being one of only two freshmen to earn All-CCIW First Team honors, Post was selected First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year after slugging at a .581 clip over 16 CCIW starts for the Titans. Her OPS was 1.032 – making her one of only nine players to eclipse the 1.000 mark – thanks to five extra-base hits and seven bases on balls.

Prager and the IWU staff led the Titans to a share of their first CCIW regular-season title since 2019 and the third championship since she became head coach in Bloomington in 2017. IWU went 25-14 overall, put up a 10-1 record at home and won 13 consecutive games from March 23 through April 19.
