NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced Student-Athlete of the Week award recipients for the second week of the 2023 men’s soccer season.
Offense: Matteo Innocenti, North Central
Last season’s CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year was a force for the Cardinals last week, providing the match-winning goal in all three of NCC’s victories. The sophomore from Rome, Italy scored twice in North Central’s 3-1 triumph over Benedictine last Tuesday, including the match winner at 41:23.
Innocenti -- now a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in his career -- picked up another go-ahead tally in the 14th minute of a 3-1 win over Trine just three days later. He closed the week with a goal and an assist in a 5-0 shutout of Rose-Hulman on Sunday in Naperville.
Defense: San Kedzior, Illinois Wesleyan
Kedzior repeated as the CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week after running his season-opening scoreless streak to 180 minutes last Wednesday in the Titans’ 2-0 win at Aurora. Kedzior made six saves for his second consecutive clean sheet, allowing IWU claim its first 2-0-0 start since 2016.
