NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) awarded the Co-Student-Athlete of the Week award in men’s tennis to Ian Turnbull of Illinois Wesleyan and Ramon Vilarroig of North Central on Tuesday afternoon.
 
It’s the second time the two have shared the weekly award from the conference office after both claimed co-honors on March 22, 2023.
 
Ian Turnbull, Illinois Wesleyan
Turnbull, a sophomore from Bloomington, Ill., is a now a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week. He swept all four of his matches from the top singles and doubles positions in the lineup, allowing the Titans to win dual matches against Monmouth and Principia last Saturday in Bloomington.
 
Turnbull was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Sawyer Day of Monmouth, then teamed with Ryan McCoy to pick up an 8-1 win over Day and Spencer Corn. Later against Principia, Turnbull earned a pivotal singles win, rallying past Jesus Soto Bossa for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 decision. Turnbull and McCoy also helped IWU take two out of three doubles wins by beating the Panthers’ duo of Bossa and Ignacio Zamora, 8-4.
 
Ramon Vilarroig, North Central
North Central was perfect last week thanks to Vilarroig’s 4-0 mark in dual wins over Coe in Lake Forest. The Castellon, Spain native had straight sets singles wins at #1, beating Graham Peterson of Coe, 7-5, 6-3, then turning aside Lake Forest’s Oleksi Vyshyvanyuk, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Vilarroig and Matthew Sengphommachanh prevailed at #2 doubles by an 8-2 score against Coe’s Luke Doig and Peterson, then defeated LFC’s team of Bernardo Aguiar and George Ciuca, 8-3.
 
Vilarroig has won the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week award four times in his NCC career.
