NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan senior Britney Maldonado is the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week in women’s lacrosse for the third consecutive week, while IWU junior Mia Fiandaca is the league’s defensive winner for the second time this month, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The announcement marks the third consecutive week the Titans have won both the offensive and defensive awards from the CCIW.
Offense: Britney Maldonado, Illinois Wesleyan
Maldonado had 28 points last week, helping IWU finish a three-game sweep of its spring-break trip to Oregon.
The senior had a record-breaking effort for the Titans in their 22-13 win last Tuesday at Linfield, scoring three goals and adding 14 assists. The 17 points were third-most in a Division III game ever, while her 14 assists ranked second on the all-time single-game national list.
Thursday at Puget Sound, Maldonado added three goals and eight assists as the Titans won 17-6 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Defensive: Mia Fiandaca, Illinois Wesleyan
Fiandaca, a junior, played another key role in IWU’s Oregon sweep. She compiled eight ground balls, eight forced turnovers and two draw controls between the two wins. Her six ground balls against Linfield were a personal season best.
She also contributed at the offensive end, breaking the single-game IWU record with eight goals in Tuesday’s win over Linfield. For the week, Fiandaca had 15 goals and two assists.
