NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan teammates Britney Maldonado (offensive) and Mia Fiandaca (co-defensive) joined Augustana’s Kyla Painter (co-defensive) as College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week, according to a Tuesday afternoon announcement from the league office.
Offensive: Britney Maldonado, Illinois Wesleyan
Maldonado tallied nine points – three goals and six assists – in the Titans’ season opener versus Aurora last Wednesday in Bloomington. The senior from Hoffman Estates, Ill. scored on all three of her shot attempts. Three days later in IWU’s 17-10 win at Edgewood, Maldonado added three more goals and four assists.
Co-Defensive: Kyla Painter, Augustana
Painter, a 5-foot-1 junior from Wildomar, Calif., sparked the Vikings’ 19-8 victory over Franklin last Saturday with six ground balls and a career-best five caused turnovers. She also scored three goals in the win, including the game winner midway through the second quarter.
Co-Defensive: Mia Fiandaca, Illinois Wesleyan
Fiandaca broke a single-game Illinois Wesleyan record with seven caused turnovers and scored six goals against Aurora last Wednesday. For the full week, which included last Saturday’s win at Edgewood, the St. Charles, Ill. native and 2023 All-CCIW pick averaged 9.0 draw controls, 6.0 caused turnovers and 3.0 ground balls per game.
