NAPERVILLE – Justin Swanson of league-leading North Park and Brett Buzzelli of Carroll are the winners of this week’s College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week award, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
 
Hitter: Justin Swanson, North Park
Swanson, a second baseman and a two-time All-CCIW First Team honoree, went 6-for-11 at the dish and was perfect in 15 defensive chances in leading the Vikings to three league wins last week.
 
The Johnson Creek, Wis. native doubled and had two stolen bases as part of a 2-for-3 effort in NPU’s 3-2 win over North Central last Thursday in Chicago. On Saturday, Swanson was 4-for-8 with three runs scored, two more steals and a double as North Park swept a doubleheader at defending league champion Augustana. Swanson equaled a personal season high with three hits in game two against Augustana.
 
Pitcher: Brett Buzzelli, Carroll
The senior right-hander from Homer Glen, Ill. pitched 7.0 scoreless innings on Saturday in Waukesha to lift the Pioneers to an 8-3 league win over Elmhurst. 
 
Buzzelli needed only 75 pitches, struck out five, walked only one Bluejay and coaxed 10 ground-ball outs to secure his 10th career win.
