Chicago Tops Carthage, Remains CCIW Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Champion

CHICAGO – Chicago became a four-time College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Lacrosse Tournament winner Saturday night after the Maroons defeated Carthage 24-5 in the 2024 final at Stagg Field.
 
UC led 6-2 after the first quarter and went on to outscore the visitors 10-0 in the second period for a 16-2 cushion at intermission. The game was delayed for approximately an hour midway through due to inclement weather.
 
Peyton McGuire scored five goals with an assist and Lulu Hardy also scored five times for Chicago. Jane Chen distributed four assists. UC held a 49-19 advantage in shot attempts and a 19-7 margin in ground balls.
 
Kyleigh Higgins logged three goals on 10 shots for Carthage, which was appearing in the CCIW Tournament championship for the fourth time in league history.
 
Chicago’s Rachel Keefe was named the recipient of the CCIW Elite 26 award prior to the game. The award is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 program and presented to the student-athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports.
