NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin officially released the list of Baseball All-CCIW honorees on Tuesday afternoon. Regular-season co-champions Millikin and North Park each placed a league-high seven student-athletes on the league’s annual postseason honor roll.
North Park senior utility player Bobby Bartlett was voted CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year, while Millikin graduate student Caleb Buehrle earned the CCIW Pitcher of the Year award. North Central’s Jackson Bland, one of two freshmen named to the All-CCIW Team on Tuesday, was selected CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year.
Brandon Townsend of Millikin and Luke Johnson of North Park were tabbed CCIW Co-Coaches of the Year after leading their teams to a share of conference championship.
Bartlett – NPU’s third CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year in the last four seasons – was a dual threat for the Vikings. He earned the All-CCIW First Team utility spot after hitting .388 with a .483 on-base percentage in 19 appearances against CCIW opponents. He was also a huge part of the NPU pitching staff, posting a 1.53 earned-run average and a 3-0 record in 29.1 innings of work. He struck out 19 hitters and limited opposing hitters to a .208 batting average.
Buehrle finished the league slate as the CCIW leader in ERA (1.03), innings pitched (43.2) and wins (six). He was the only pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout against a conference opponent this spring and was one of only five CCIW aces to make six starts. He is the first CCIW Pitcher of the Year from Millikin since at least 1980.
Bland, an NCC infielder, ranked among the top five of CCIW hitters with 34 hits (second), 21 RBI (third), two triples (third) and 22 runs scored (fifth). He also finished the 20-game slate with a .405 batting average, one of only six players to reach the .400 mark.
Johnson is now a four-time CCIW Coach of the Year honoree after previous selections in 2006, 2011 and 2012. The Vikings, picked fifth in a preseason CCIW coaches’ poll, surged to win their first league title since going back to back in 2011 and 2012.
Townsend is also a multiple-time CCIW Coach of the Year recipient after also earning the award in 2019. The 12th-year head coach piloted the Big Blue to a share of their first league title since 1975.
