NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Football Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday for games played during week three of the 2024 season.
Offense: Dermot Smyth, Illinois Wesleyan, Sophomore (Chicago, Ill.)
Smyth provided 216 yards of total offense and had a hand in five touchdowns to lead Illinois Wesleyan to a 55-7 win at Elmhurst on Saturday night.
The 5-foot-9 quarterback completed 13 passes for 115 yards and two scores while also rushing 17 times for 101 yards and three more touchdowns. Two of his touchdown runs came in the game’s first 12 minutes, helping the Titans score 28 unanswered points to begin the game.
Defense: Jaydin Miller, North Park, Fifth Year (South Bend, Ind.)
Miller was all over the field in North Park’s 44-0 shutout of Millikin, tallying six solo tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and two forced fumbles. Miller, a linebacker, was also credited with a pass breakup. His forced fumble midway through the second quarter thwarted one of Millikin’s trips to the red zone.
Monday’s announcement marks the third time Miller has been named CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week.
Special Teams: Carson Blatchford, North Park, Fifth Year (Belvidere, Ill.)
Blatchford punted six times on Saturday against Millikin, averaging 41.3 yards per attempt. Two of the kicks pinned the Big Blue inside their 20-yard-line. Blatchford also kicked off seven times – four of which were touchbacks – in the Vikings’ 44-0 win.
