Three in a Row: North Central Continues Championship Run with 4-0 Final Victory

NAPERVILLE — Top-seeded North Central made it three consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Soccer Championships on Saturday, posting a 4-0 victory over #2 North Park in the tournament final at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill.

The Cardinals become the first CCIW women’s soccer program to win three league tournaments in a row since Wheaton won five straight from 2011 through 2015. The final margin of victory was the largest in a CCIW final since Wheaton’s 5-0 shutout of Carthage in 2013. NCC will advance to represent the CCIW in the NCAA Tournament.

NCC took control early, scoring three goals in the first half. Lucy Burke opened the scoring at the 19:04 mark, assisted by Kara Waishwell, before Gabriella Mattio found the back of the net at 23:59 on a setup from Kassandra Salviola and Jordan Lange. Just over a minute later, Salviola added a goal of her own at 25:05 with an assist from Madison DeVriendt, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Lange extended the lead to 4-0 with her 11th goal of the season at 47:10. Lange led all players with eight shots, including six on goal. North Central outshot North Park 27-16 overall and 16-3 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Lily Mattison earned the shutout with three saves in 90 minutes of play, while North Park goalkeeper Paige MacRitchie made 12 saves against 16 shots on target.

North Park, which qualified for the CCIW Championship for the first time in program history, closes the season 10-9-0.

Prior to the match, North Park’s Greta Lampen, Stine Lie and Julia Oennerheim joined North Central’s Lily Mattison as the CCIW’s Elite 26 award winners, presented to student-athlete that excel academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports.
