WESTMONT, Ill. – College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season champion Marian will aim to defend its postseason league title this weekend when the CCIW Women’s Bowling Championship takes center stage Saturday and Sunday at Suburbanite Bowl in Westmont, Ill.
The four-team double-elimination tournament begins Saturday at 11 a.m. with a pair of matches. Top-seeded Marian will square off with #4 Elmhurst, while #2 Carroll and #3 Aurora will also meet. A second session follows Saturday at approximately 2 p.m.
Sunday’s competition begins at 8 a.m. with an elimination match, followed by the championship session at approximately 11 a.m.
Doors open at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and 7:15 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for senior citizens, students and children over the age of 2. Admission is cash only.
Under the mega-match tournament format, winners will be determined by using a best-of-three match format in the following order: five-person team match, Baker total pinfall and a best-of-seven Baker match play. The match will be played on the same pair of lanes with normal rules applying. Each individual format must be played until a winner is determined utilizing the modified Baker roll-off to break ties.
Marian is the top seed after posting a 10-2 head-to-head record during the league’s two round-robin regular-season events. The Sabres were 5-1 in both the November and March events. MU has won or shared the regular-season title in four consecutive seasons, including outright crowns in the two most recent seasons.
Carroll is returning to the CCIW Championship for the second consecutive season after going 9-3 in regular-season competition. It’s the Pioneers’ second consecutive bid to the league postseason. Carroll’s opening opponent on Saturday is Aurora, which went 7-5 against conference opponents to earn the third seed. The Spartans advanced to the championship series last season for the first time.
Elmhurst – which will serve as the championship host this weekend in Westmont – is the fourth seed. EU went 6-6 in the regular-season series and won a tiebreaker for the final championship berth due to an advantage on total pinfall in the two matches with Augustana. This weekend's appearance is Elmhurst's first under the championship's current four-team format.
The tournament will be streamed live via Elmhurst’s YouTube channel with links available at the CCIW Championship Central website.
