WESTMONT, Ill. – For the second season in a row, Aurora has advanced to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Bowling Championship match after posting a 2-0 record on day one of the 2025 event at Suburbanite Bowl in Westmont, Ill.
The third-seeded Spartans won a pair mega matches, both in best-of-7 Baker tiebreakers on Saturday to claim its place in the tournament driver’s seat. AU’s first win was against #2 Carroll, then over top-seeded Marian.
AU dropped the traditional series to start play Saturday against Carroll, but recovered to claim the Baker game by a score of 846-801. The Spartans ultimately prevailed in the Baker best-of-7, four games to two. In the next match versus Marian, AU needed another rally in the Baker game and won 808-794. The following Baker best-of-7 went the distance with Aurora winning the decisive seventh game for a 4-3 series win and a berth to Sunday’s final.
Marian will meet Carroll in Sunday’s 8 a.m. elimination match. The Sabres won both the traditional and Baker games in Saturday’s first session over Elmhurst.
After Carroll dropped its opener to Aurora, the Pioneers recovered to oust fourth-seeded Elmhurst, winning the traditional game, 854-771, and winning the Baker best-of-7 tiebreaker, 4-1.
Aurora will play Sunday at 11 a.m. in Westmont and awaits the winner of the 8 a.m. elimination match between Marian and Carroll. The winner of the 8 a.m. match will have to beat the Spartans in both the mega match format and a best-of-7 Baker series to win the championship.
