CCIW Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week (March 31)

NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for games played between Monday, March 24 and Sunday, March 30.
 
Hitter: Nate Sommerfeld, North Park, Senior (Crest Hill, Ill.)
Sommerfeld went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double and seven RBI to help the Vikings to a 15-10 win at Illinois Wesleyan on Friday. He scored four runs in the win.
 
Friday’s performance helped Sommerfeld hit .462 (6-for-13) for the week. He had another double and two RBI as part of a two-hit effort Saturday in NPU’s 12-7 victory over Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Pitcher: Bryce Schaum, Carthage, Senior (Munster, Ind.)
Schaum won his first CCIW start of the campaign on Friday, striking out 15 batters to lift the Firebirds over Wheaton, 15-2. Now a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in 2025, Schaum allowed only three hits and two earned runs. He walked one of the 24 batters he faced and has struck out 10 or more batters three times this season.
