AROUND THE CCIW
Carthage sophomore Chad Kohlmann (Delafield, Wis.) reached double figures in ground balls for the third time this season, logging 10 in the Firebirds’ 11-10 loss to Albion last Saturday. Kohlmann’s 75 ground balls are most by any player in the CCIW, while his faceoff percentage of .646 ranks second among players to have won at least 100 faceoffs. Carthage (9-2) will turn its attention to the league schedule on Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. start at Elmhurst.

Elmhurst senior Pete Grebe (St. Louis, Mo.) scored twice, including his second career game-winning goal, to help the Bluejays rally for a 10-7 win at Colorado College last Saturday. Grebe’s first goal tied the game at 5-5 less than five minutes into the third quarter and his tally at the 11:56 mark of the fourth quarter gave EU an 8-5 advantage and held up as the game winner. The Bluejays (9-0) open league play Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at home against Carthage.

Illinois Wesleyan senior Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.) collected a season-high 14 ground balls last Saturday in the Titans’ 23-18 triumph at Adrian. The performance, just one week after notching 11 ground balls at Calvin, elevated Schroeder’s season average to 6.60 ground balls per game – third-most in the CCIW. Schroeder has 212 career ground balls in 35 games since 2022. IWU (8-2) returns to competition next Wednesday, April 9 versus North Central in Bloomington.

North Central senior Aidan Murphy (Lindenhurst, Ill.) was named CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after tallying 19 saves in NCC’s 9-8 win over Calvin last Saturday afternoon in Naperville. It was a new season high in saves for Murphy, who is the CCIW leader in both saves percentage (.661) and saves per game (14.63). North Central (6-2) remained unbeaten at home with last weekend’s win (4-0) and will go to Transylvania on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
