NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for games played between Monday, March 31 and Sunday, April 6
Hitter: Clare Rettler, Carthage, Junior (Appleton, Wis.)
Rettler added 13 more hits to her season total last week, including a 5-for-5 performance in Saturday’s 10-2 win at Augustana. For the full week, Rettler went 13-for-21 (.619) with eight runs scored, two triples and was a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen-base attempts.
Rettler’s hit streak ended at 32 games in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader. It was the longest hit streak in Carthage history and the sixth-longest streak in Division III history.
Pitcher: Shylah Dozeman, Wheaton, Sophomore (Holland, Mich.)
Dozeman notched two victories and had a 1.03 earned-run average in 20.1 innings last week. She struck out 17 across three appearances.
She threw 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the victory in relief last Thursday versus Carthage, striking out four and working around three hits. Dozeman also won versus Elmhurst on Saturday, yielding only one earned run on six hits with a career-high eight strikeouts.
