NCC Ends Men's Tennis Season with NCAA Tournament Loss

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Concluding its 2024-25 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the North Central College men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 9 Swarthmore College on Saturday at the Denison Tennis Courts. 

The Garnet's top doubles team is ranked No. 4 in the nation. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh kept it close, but ultimately fell 6-3. Swarthmore also picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point. Justin Penados and Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz were ahead 4-3 at No. 3 doubles before the point was decided. 

In singles play, the Cardinals dropped straight set matches at No. 3, 4 and 6 as the Garnet earned a 4-0 victory. Vilarroig Martinez won his first set 6-4 over the No. 10 ranked singles player in Division III, Micahel Melnikov before the clinch. 

The Cardinals finish the season 15-7 with a 6-1 conference record to win their fourth College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship.
